The New Royals

As the new millennium came and went a new era dawned on the royal family. Increasingly they found themselves sharing the spotlight with a new form of aristocracy – that of celebrity pop stars such as The Spice Girls and Madonna as well as world-famous sports stars. The public’s endless thirst for titillating gossip has meant that the ‘true’ royals have sometimes had to take a back seat to a number of seemingly flash-in-the-pan celebrity upstarts. This has led to a new form of ‘royal’ lifestyle – one that may be more in touch with real life than that of newer and less ‘royal’ celebrities.
