Prince Charles and Prince William: Royal Rivals?
The death of a beloved mother, the rejection of a wife and a ‘third person’ in a royal marriage – these have somehow not broken the close bond between Prince William and his father, Prince Charles. This original programme explores the nature of that mutual affection and looks at how William has been a generous son to his father, a fine role model for his younger brother Prince Harry and an enormous comfort to his late mother, Princess Diana. Yet, unlike Charles, William is very much a man of his time, and perhaps this is where the rivalry could emerge as the question arises of what sort of image the monarch should have in an increasingly modern and multicultural Britain.
